The Hows of Hydration (Pillar #3)
Drinking water goes hand and hand with proper eating. I was going to include water drinking with the Science of Eating, but it’s much too important to human health and elevated vibrations to be used as a sort of footnote. Therefore drinking water is the 3rd lesson in the “elevate your vibrations” series.
The human body consists of 60% to 70% water. Human blood is 90% water. And the entire surface of a DNA double helix is coated in water. Water plays an intricate role in the maintenance of the body. Every tissue, cell and organ in the human body heavily depends on sufficient water to function correctly. Water is necessary to aid proper circulation of the blood in the body, eliminating waste from the system, and essential to the assimilation of nourishment by the body.
Water in the Blood
Blood delivers oxygen to every single part of the body. Every tissue, cell, and organ needs oxygen to perform. With blood being 90% water, when the body doesn’t ingest enough water, the blood suffers. And with the blood suffering, the rest of the body suffers as well. A lack of water can cause increases in blood pressure called hypertension. Essentially, when the cells lack water, the brain orders the pituitary gland to release vasopressin, which causes the blood vessels to tighten and restrict in an attempt to hang onto the small amount of water in the body. This constriction of blood vessels causes blood pressure to rise. Therefore in order to stimulate circulation and keep the blood vessels open and flowy, drinking plenty of water is crucial.
Water to Remove Waste
Waste in the body is a by-product of the body’s metabolism and processing of food. Nature’s perfect design offers numerous ways of expelling waste from the body and water is the key ingredient for moving waste from the body. Skin is the largest organ in the body and it constantly works on discarding waste through the process of sweating and perspiration. Without sufficient water, the skin fails to perspire correctly and over the years takes on a dry and feverish look. To keep the skin healthy, fresh and functioning, water is key.
The digestive system literally relies on water to keep the process moving starting from the mouth all the way to the colon and anus. When there is insufficient water flowing through the system, constipation ensues. Constipation is when you cannot pass stool. Essentially, you have waste products that the system wants to get rid of, but is unable to. This can lead to numerous other health complications. The best way to avoid constipation is by drinking enough water.
Other Health Benefits
Lubricates the joints. Cartilage is 80% water and is found in the joints and the disks of the spine. Lack of water reduces the shock absorption in the joints and causes pain and exaggerated wear and tear.
Keeps the kidneys working effectively. Without water, the kidneys can get clogged up with muscle proteins, which after a while can lead to kidney damage and failure.
Water helps the small intestine by dissolving nutrients and minerals so they are more easily absorbed by the body and blood.
Water is needed to manufacture saliva, bile, pancreatic juices, and gastric juices, which are essential enzymes in breaking food down to make it accessible to the body.
How to Drink Water
There are 4 ways to ensure that your body is properly hydrated.
It has been reported that everyone should drink roughly half their body weight (in pounds) in ounces of water daily. So a person weighing 150 pounds should drink 75 ounces of water a day. This works out to just more than 2 liters a day.
Of these two liters a day, they should be cool or room temperature in order to keep the blood vessels open. Cold water briefly constricts or tightens blood vessels, which could lead to high blood pressure. If you have normal blood pressure, it is nothing to worry about, but if you have high blood pressure, be conscious of how much ice cold water you drink.
It is also beneficial to sip water, instead of chugging water throughout the day. A glass of water is the first thing that I put into my body in the morning in order to cleanse the stomach and wash away any waste that accumulated during the night. I also have a glass of water before bed, and in between I will sip water from a bottle that I keep near me.
Be grateful and appreciative of the water that you are drinking. Be mindful that you are ingesting nature’s life giving tonic each time you take a sip of water. This will promote ideal health and elevated vibrations.
In conclusion, water is nature’s incredible gift. In order to elevate your vibrations, it is prudent to make sure your body is receiving sufficient amounts of water to stimulate your circulation and remove all bodily waste. This results in optimal health and performance.
